Marine Diesel Engine Survey, an engine survey is a visual external inspection of the engine coupled with extensive computerized dealer level diagnostic testing.

Upon request, a compression tests, borescope test can be provided at an additional charge. Following our diagnostics, we provide you with a detailed written report of our findings.

What testing is included in a Marine Engine Sea Trial.

 

Cooling System Pressure Test: Pressure testing the cooling system of a boat is essential to identify leaks and ensure proper functioning.

Cold Engine Starting:

WOT (wide open throttle) usually between 5 – 10 minutes. nearly every marine diesel engine manufacturer warrants their engines ability to operate at full throttle for 10 minutes. M rating M1 – M5

Instrument and warning light alarm functionality:

Engine vibration: observed throughout its operating range.

Exhaust manifold temperature:

Engine Oil temperature: before and after the lube oil cooler.

Transmission Oil Temperature: before and after the transmission oil cooler.

Fuel oil temperature: before and after the fuel oil cooler.

Coolant temperature: before & after the heat exchanger.

Pressure to seawater inlet restriction or vacuum:

Engine oil pressure:

Transmission oil pressure:

Fuel oil & turbo boost pressure: ECM equipped.

Exhaust gas temperature: ECM equipped.

Shaft log temperature:

Hoses & Clamps: checked for abrasion, cracking, kinking, deformation, and fitting.

Belts and (external) chains: checked for wear, cracking, tension, and flexibility.

Electrical wires: cables, and connections examined for corrosion and mechanical wear.

Noise or vibration while shifting in & out of gear:

Inspection of engine mounts:

Oil Analysis: We draw samples of engine and crankcase oil for laboratory analysis. The results of this analysis can alert you to a variety of issues ranging from worn out bearing to leaking head gaskets.

Coolant Analysis:, Transmission oil analysis: if requested at additional cost of $75.00 per engine

Compression & borescope testing:

in order to perform testing the fuel injectors need to be removed. done on a time & materials basis. $140hr labor NOTE: If compression test is performed fuel injectors should be tested while they are out.
